This is the role Paul will take - this is one of the goals of the game although many things are yet to come after you reach this. Arrakis is inhabitated by a small tribe called Fremen - they adapted to the hard climate and the constant danger of the sandworms and they developed a religion that awaits the arrival of the Muad'dib - a kind of messiah.
The planet this happens on is Arrakis - a desert planet and the only known source for spice. Their opponents in this story are the Harkonnens who got this "license" before and aren't willing to give it up. You play the role of Paul Atreides - the oldest son of the Atreides dynasty that just got the permission from the emperor to harvest spice, a mysterious drug of high value.
The game really got atmosphere and throws you right into the world of Frank Herbert's novel. Basically I tend to share the first opinion. When it came out one of the two main gaming magazines said it was one of the all time greatest games ever made, while the other said it was crap. 16-bit color mode is the default setting, bringing the game's graphics up to par with previous Command & Conquer games, while 8-bit color mode is available as an option in the game's settings.Įverything from the original is back: the sandworms, the spice, the Fremen, the familiar structures and planet map, and even the introductory cinematic is an enhanced live-action/CGI version of the original.This game is one of the most controversal games in gaming history - at least as far as I can remember.
Unlike the original, cutscenes happen after each mission, with a live stream this time, as seen in Westwood Studios' Command & Conquer franchise. The Harkonnen are simply brutal, with no concern for the lives of their own troops or destruction, as long as they are victorious. The Ordos rely on guerrilla tactics and superior technology, as well as mercenaries. The Atreides have air superiority and rely on their honor and alliance with the planet's natives, the Fremen. Each has different sets of units and tactics, while maintaining an overall balance.
In this real-time strategy game, you can play one of three houses: the noble Atreides, the insidious Ordos or the evil Harkonnen. Dune 2000 is a remake of the classic Dune II: Building a Dynasty, updated for Windows.
